Aftermath of the Silent Day
Nyepi or “silent day” has just passed and right after Nyepi , Bali enter Kadasa the tenth month of Balinese lunar calendar. Kadasa is a special month Balinese since it is believed to be “Amreta masaning sasih,” or “month of prosperity”. Kadasa is the month has many auspicious days for religious ceremonies and a good month to start new business or new career and also a good month for the farmers to do all their activities.
Balinese, especially older generation believed that the Kadasa or tenth month is a ‘clean month”. After the world is cleansed with the tawur kesanga (religious ceremony on the ninth month to purify the cosmos) in the previous month, the kedasa (tenth month) is a dawn of new hope when all universe back to their pure state when the weather is calm, no strong wind, dark clouds, or sudden downpour of rain happen. A clear sunny sky and clear starry night are the characteristics of the Kadasa (April). Strong and hot southeast wind increase the temperature and dissipate the rain.
The first day of Kedasa is also the first day of Caka lunar year, the first day of the New Year. I hope that Kedasa this year brings harmony, prosperity and new hope for better future.
