April is the first month of dry season in Indonesia. Although it is predicted that rain will still pour down but the sun will take the domination. Hence, this month is perfect month to go to Bali. Somehow, Bali always has something to be enjoyed. In April, Balinese will celebrate these celebrations.

2nd Tumpek Wayang

On this day, a set of offerings will dedicate to Sanghyang Iswara, the Lord of Puppeteers. Tumpek Wayang is the most important day for owners of leather puppet and they will pay homage to their puppets. Beside the ceremony for the puppet collection, the sacred purifying ceremony will also be conducted for those unlucky babies who are born on Tumpek Wayang.

21st April Kartini Day

Kartini is one of Indonesian national heroine. If other superwomen used power and weapons to sweep away the colonizers, Kartini used her braveness to break the rule and propagated that the women have the same right with the men. Because of her attempts, Indonesian women understand the importance of being educated and pursue the career; not only doing some works at home. The students usually used to get traditional dress on this day but today’s Kartini day is celebrated by holding flag ceremony only.

Knowledge is so important for human being. It changes life to be easier, richer, and more developed. Therefore Balinese has a day to devote Sang Hyang Aji Saraswati, the goddesses of knowledge, wisdom, and the arts, named Saraswati Day. Each school and university in Bali has Saraswati statue to pay respect toward the knowledge. On this day each of them holds a ceremony and the students prays altogether.
