Tonight is a Special Night
Tonight is a special moment for the visitors, who come to Bali to enjoy or to study the culture of paradise island of Bali, since many temple ceremonies all over the paradise island of Bali will be held tonight; range from the grand mother temple Besakih to the Pulaki temple complex in West Bali.
Why tonight? Tonight is the full moon of the fourth month of Balinese Caka Calendar. This full moon is the brightest full moon in a year since the sun is above the equator so the reflection of the sunlight by the moon is at maximum. Balinese believe that his full moon is auspicious time for meditating, contemplating, and holding religious ceremony.
Full moon of the fourth month (kapat) is always welcomed with joy by Balinese. In the evening, visitors can see the public temples are packed with pilgrims. The religious activities on this full moon usually last until midnight especially the reciting of religious hymn and the shadow puppet performance which is usually held at Jagatnatha Temple, Denpasar. Some Balinese also celebrate this full moon by meditate in sacred place near their respective abode.
