Bali hosts “Tango in Paradise”
Tango lovers and enthusiasts will need to free their schedule from Nov. 28 through Dec. 4, for Tango in Paradise Festival that will be held in several locations across Bali. The venues of the festival includes Ubud — Ayung Resort, the Royal Pita Maha Resort and Spa and Puri Lukisan Museum — and Legian — Art Village and Hotel Kumala Pantai.
Tango in Paradise Festival will feature dance competitions, workshops, private courses and performances by international tango masters. This six-day event will bring together professional tango dancers from Indonesia and overseas. The tango stalwarts who attend the festival including three couples of tango: Jorge Torres and Maria Blanco; Sabrina and Ruben Veliz and Luis Castro and Claudia Mendoza. Asia’s leading proponents of the tango, Gustava Lin and Catarina Chung will also be dancing in Bali.
“During the festival, those who are interested in the tango will have lots of opportunities to meet other tango lovers and dancers,” Ratih Soe Kasasie, chairperson of the organizing committee, explained.
“Enthusiasts may learn more about dance theories and styles, philosophical and historical background, and share their experiences and skills with others,” she added. Ratih further said that Bali was chosen to host the festival because of its fame and beauty. “I want tango lovers from all over the country to visit Bali,” she said.
“The festival will promote Balinese endek, a woven textile. Contestants will all wear endek during competitions.”
Participants from Indonesia, Singapore, Russia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Italy will compete for cash prizes ranging from US$250 to $1000.
