Bali is Preparing Railway System

In late January memorandum of understanding (MOU) covering the plan to build railway system in Bali has been signed by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Transportation, Bali Government, and Indonesian Train Company (PT. Kereta Api Indonesia). This system is considered as the best solution for bad condition of public transportation in Bali as well as the newest attractive tourism product.

As many new ideas, this plan has received pro and contra statement. “ But Balinese people really support this great idea because they understand the purpose to construct railway system,” claimed I Made Mangku Pastika, Bali Governor. Further, Pastika added that the railway system will connect the important sites in Bali such as airport, seaport, bus station, and tourism objects. “It has been so long Balinese community dream about qualified public transportation and hopefully this plan will bring Bali to a better condition,” said Yuni Syafitri, a Denpasar citizen.

For her, railway plan will affect positively to the tourism industry. The same thing was stated by Pastika in front of the press in Jakarta. “For instance, from Denpasar to Gilamanuk, there will be sea views to the left and mountains to the right. The vistas will be extraordinary” said him while adding that railway track will follow Bali’s shore line. It will give memorable travel to the tourist and the train will stop in selected point where attractions await. “Definitely, I prefer travelling around Bali using train and I think other people will do the same,” said Yuni enthusiastically.

This proposal which can alleviate the congestion is about to be put into a realization. After signing MOU, Pastika explained the next step is establishing the best working team. Based on the schedule, the entire railway covering 565 km circling Bali is scheduled to be operated officially in 2015.
