Tanah Lot is full of surprises. It has always been offering attractive event every years. Following the success of run 10K, kite festival, colossal kecak dance, colossal tektekan and okokan, and many other mega-events in the past, Tanah Lot is now presenting Tanah Lot Spectacular 2008 combining Tanah Lot 10K 2008, colossal tektekan and okokan involving 1,500 dancers, and Tanah Lot Kite Festival, all together in three days events scheduled between 12th and 14th of September 2008 and will be opened by Minister of Tourism and Culture “Jero Wacik”. Okokan and tektekan which are native tradition of Tabanan regency expresses traditonal living as Bali’s largest rice producer. Performed by 1,500 dancers, the performance inaugurating the whole event will be followed by Tanah Lot Kite Festival 2008. On September 12th, creative kite competition will be started at 13.00 which will involve a number of foreign participants.

Besides of that, additionally kite surfing and boogie kites will also conducted to add extra attractions. Kite surfing is a combination of power kite flying, windsurfing, paragliding and wakeboarding. The sport needs a good grounding in the use of power kite flying skills. Kitesurfing, uses wind power to pull a rider through the water on a small surfboard or a kiteboard (which is like a wakeboard). Generally kiteboarding refers to a style of riding known as free-style or wakestyle where as kitesurfing is more waveriding oriented. These two styles usually require different boards and specific performance kites.

“Tanah Lot will definitely be very packed with thousands of visitors during the event”, said I Made Sujana, operational manager of Tanah Lot tourism authority which also serves as the chairman of Tanah Lot Spectacular 2008 organizing committee. In addition to foreign and domestic tourists, local residents from surrounding area are predicted to flood Tanah Lot as well. 13th and 14th September are seeing traditional kite competition to take place between 10.00 in the morning and 16.00 in the afternoon. All participants will be clustered into five different groups each with two competition sessions.

To manage traffic congestion and endorse sufficient security measures, the organizer allocate a force of security guards which will be fully stand-by along the whole three days event, spreaded from outside the gate down to the competition areas. The organizer also announce full blockade of Kediri – Tanah Lot route between 06.00 and 09.00 on September 12th. Audiences coming to Tanah Lot on 13th and 14th of September using motorcycle are advised to take seaside road between Kedungu – Belalang to aviod congestion along the main road.
