The village of Tenganan in Karangsem regency is indisputably the village with most preserved culture and nature in Bali. It’s popularity as been spread all over the globe but only visitors know the beauty of neighboring villages which surround the Tenganan village.

The village of Tenganan is surrounded by other villages such as Tenganan Dauh Tukad, Gumung, Gumang, Bukit Kangin and Bukit Kauh. To get the best view of these surrounding villages especially the Gumang village which has enchanting rice terrace view, it best to start a trekking from the neighboring village of Kastala then pass the Gumung village to the back alley of Tenganan. This trekking, as a matter of fact is walking among rows of rice fields that descend into the valley with Mount Agung looms majestically on the background.

Gumung village is actually not a village with a definite area, the land of this village is belonged to Tenganan village and most parts of this village are rice fields owned by Tenganan’s residents. The residents of Gumung village usually work in the rice field of Tenganan’s people since Tenganan people is forbade to work in the rice fields by their own custom law. This relationship has going on for centuries, and when there is a ceremony in Tenganan the people of Gumung will help to prepare the ceremony.

So next time when you visit Tenganan, do not forget to visit the neighboring villages of Tenganan; The beauties of these villages are surely worth every second of your time you spend there.
