Echoes of Peace
The month of October has never been the same since the Bali bombing back in 2002. Therefore, in October, 12th 2003, the “Gema Perdamaian” (Echoes of Peace) event was held for the first time, in hope that people would really understand the true meaning of peace.
The peak of all events for this year were held on October, 12th 2006 at the Monumen Perjuangan Rakyat Bali, the Bajra Sandhi Monument. Precisely at 5 pm, thousand people mass rally for peace. They spread the peace spirits in hope that others will know how important it is to help each other in a circle of peace. Muslim, Christian, Hindu and Buddhist religious leaders offered prayers for peace.
A.A. Suryawan W, chairman of the organizing committee, noted that these activities look forward to the future, rather than back at the bombings. “They serve just as a strong reminder to the Balinese people and to those visiting the island to maintain friendship and peace in Bali and every where throughout the world,” Suryawan commented.
