The Opening of International Conference and Festival Identity of North Balinese Culture

Prof. DR. I Gde Pitana, M.Si. as the representative of Indonesian Minister of Culture and Tourism opened The International Conference and Festival Identity of North Balinese Culture. The opening ceremony of International Conference and Festival of North Balinese Culture was held on Banyu Alit Hotel, Lovina Bali on July 30, 2009. The opening ceremony started at 10 AM last until 1 PM. The opening ceremony was attended by governor of Bali, regent of Buleleng, researchers, artists, connoisseurs of Balinese art and culture as well as representatives from tourism industry and media.
This opening ceremony was highlighted with the dance and musical performances. Tri Pitaka Dance and Gamelan Troupe from Munduk Village performed a contemporary dance creation entitled “Mulat Sarira” (Self Introspection) and a new musical arrangement entitled “Sasih Kapitu” (Seventh Month) which was composed by Putra Putrawan while Sumurda Sari Gamelan troupe performed classic musical arrangements one of them is Lelongoran, an old musical piece that is considered as the basic form of modern gong kebyar; this sacred musical piece was originated in East Buleleng and has spread to West Buleleng as well.
The opening ceremony marks the beginning of 4-day conference and festival that will re-emphasize the existence and the contribution of North Balinese culture to Balinese cultural repertoires.
