More on Durian in Bali
If you are happen to visit Bali this month and you love to eat durian then you will have a great chance to experience the durian season of Bali. The durian season this year come a bit early and produce less durian than last year season but if you are interested in hunting durian down to its tree you will have a chance to taste the fresh durian right from its tree with cheaper price and of course a trip to inland Bali.

Where is the forest of durian in Bali? If you have stamina for more than two hours drive, then Bangkiang Sidem and Ambengan village and their surrounding area in Buleleng regency near Buyan Lake are the places where you will find plenty of durian since these areas is the center of durian plantation in North Bali. In these areas, you can find durians stalls line up on both side of the main street that runs across the villages. The stall is usually managed by the owner of the durian trees.
Buying durian in these roadside stalls can be a good exercise to your communication skills. Most of the vendors do not have enough ability to communicate in English properly (properly here means understandable) so either they or you have to contrive a certain way or two in order to communicate properly. For example, you can show them money to ask for the price of the fruit and they will show the exact amount of money you have to pay for a durian and don’t forget to haggle, the sellers here feel that they prerogative right to overcharge the foreigners.

Another point to be highlighted is how Balinese classifies the durian. Most Balinese classifies durian into two categories: the Bali durian and Bangkok durian. The Bali durian is smaller than Bangkok durian but has stronger flavor; some people say more bitter than Bangkok durian. Bangkok durian is bigger and has milder taste.
So get your gear up, happy hunting.
