Ubud refuses starbucks
By Michaela Maria
A Starbucks is in the final stages of planning development in Ubuds most prominent position right beside the central palace. This palace is represents to many the centre of the living spirit of Bali.

We recognize the importance of the cultural reasons tourists come to Ubud and we passionately want to preserve the unique soul, culture and heritage that is so alive. We support authentic and localized businesses to support and supply to the needs of these tourists. We believe the local community should benefit from the increase of tourism as they have been the very essence of why people have come here in the first place. We recognize that the the influx of major national companies will homogenize the flavor of our community, and would have a historically degrading effect on our community. Throughout the history of Bali our youth, our families and our international friends visiting our island have been inspired by our strong beliefs in values and culture, so we now ask you to stand with us united in a voice to say no to unnecessary multinationals coming to benefit financially, and changing the face of who we are.

There are Indonesian coffee shop alternatives that could take this position if given the opportunity.
