Nusa Penida Renewable Energy Park

Nusa Penida, the arid and dry island which is long had been forgotten now begins to move forward. One of many breakthroughs that push Nusa Penida into the highlight is The Renewable Energy Park in Puncak Mundi (Mundi Peak). This green energy park is situated on the top a hill in Kelumpu village, in Puncak Mundi area, the highest area in Nusa Penida island. The energy park is around 17 Km from Nusa Penida main harbor or 15 minutes drive with public transportation.

Nusa Penida Renewable Energy Park

Nusa Penida Renewable Energy Park consist of several power plants which use solar and wind energy instead of gas as their fuel to produce electricity. There are two windmill in this park, each produces 80 kWh electric power. There is also a solar based power plant which is able to produce 32 kWh electric power. The Klungkung government plan to built another seven windmills to fulfill the need for cheap electricity in Nusa Penida.

Nusa Penida Renewable Energy Park also boasts of Biogas and Biofuel. The biogas is produced from pig excrement which is processed through severals steps to produce Biogas which is used as a fuel for cooking activities. The biofuel is produced from the seed of Jatropha curcas. A kilogram of Jatropha curcas’ seed can produce 0.3 kg biofuel which can be used to as fuel for diesel or to replaced kerosene as fuel for cooking stove.

The Nusa Penida Renewable Energy provide cheap electricity for the inhabitants of Nusa Penida Island and the windmill is also used to pump up the underground water which is located 200 meter under the hill, providing cheap healthy water for the community. The expansion of this park will contribute a great deal to the life of the people of Nusa Penida.
