Tourism Property Development in Bali
“As fast as paradise seduces tourist, tourist reduces paradise”, this sentence is not just a mere slogan but if we take look of what happen in Bali nowadays; it becomes truism. In the name for tourism development, big construction companies set up new villas, resorts, apartments and so on everyday. Many rice fields, forests, cliffs, gorges and every place that provides stunning view are converted into villas, resorts, apartment or other establishments, changing not just the environment but also Balinese way of life.
The fast growth of tourism related development is not only taking place in well-known tourism resorts in south Bali such Sanur, Nusa Dua, Kuta and their vicinities but has spread all over Bali even to the remotest place in the island. The development can be seen everywhere in the island, from the beaches to the mountains, from cliffs to rice field terraces.
Unfortunately, not all of the tourism-related developments give enough attention to the surrounding environments and the life of Balinese people nearby. This is very dangerous for the sustainability of the environment and Balinese way of life, especially when the development of the tourism facilities is conducted in a place that is important for the sustainability of the natural resources such as near the springs, lakes, or mountains.
There is nothing knew in all of these, we all know about these but most of us take these for granted, and the main question is “how long we can close our eyes on this fact and did not take any action to save the environment, to safe Bali.
