The beauty of this village is represented by the name of this village; some say that the word “penglipuran” isderived from the word “penglipur” means “entertainer” it is said that in bygone days the kings of Bali often went to this area to amuse themselves, since the beauty of this area is believed to bring peacefulness and inspiration.

This village also offers a beautiful surrounding area that is excellent for trekking and bicycling. There is a bamboo forest of 75 hectares, with fifteen varieties of bamboo, near the village. This forest contains 15 different varieties of bamboo. A walk through this bamboo forest can be an unforgettable experience. Here, you can feel a cool and fresh air on your skin and listen to the unique sound of the bamboo touching each other whenever the wind blows through them. Since there are many areas (karang) that are considered to be sacred by the village community, information on this matter is obligatory before you do a trekking or bicycling in the village of Panglipuran. All the villagers know which area is sacred and which is not, you only need to ask, a guide is not necessarily needed.

But Penglipuran not just offer enchanting panorama, its main attraction is the layout of the village, the architecture of the houses in the village. The rows of houses with similar gates arranged in both side of the main street of the village offers a nuance of rustic life of traditional Bali. There is a unique uniformity of the architecture of the houses in this village which still apply the to traditional house structure rules, an extremely rare sight in Bali.
