The Campuhan (confluence of two rivers) of Ubud offers not just picturesque natural panorama but also a beautiful sacred temple. This temple is known as Pura Gunung Lebah (Low Mountain Temple), located across the street and the other side of the bridge to Museum Blanco.

The legend has it; Rsi Markandya, a holy sages who came from Java and built Besakih Temple (Bali’s Mother Temple) was spiritually attracted by a place located at a foothill in the centre of the island that emanated light and energy. This place was the confluence of West and East Wos River in present day Ubud. He settled, meditated and built the temple Pura Gunung Lebah (Low Mountain temple) there. This temple is associated with Dewi Danu, the water goddess of the crater lake of Mount Batur, source of irrigation water for the ricefields in Ubud and many other villages.

It is quite easy to reach this temple, only five-minute walk to the west from the downtown Ubud. Like any other temple in Bali, Gunung Lebah temple is divided into three sections, the outer courtyard (jaba), the middle courtyard (jaba tengah) and inner courtyard (jeroan). Though this temple can be dated to 8th century AD but the shrines and the structures of this temple are built in modern style with bright colored ornaments and statues.

The visitors to this temple have to wear sarong and sash in order to enter the temple, so don not forget to bring one when you visit Gunung Lebah Temple>
