Coconut Water for Health, not Coconut Milk !
Being in the tropics, mean replenishing your fluids and minerals that you have sweated out. Hydrating yourself with some kind of oral electrolyte (Pedialyte, or Pocari Sweat) is a must. But the most healthful is the natural Coconut Water (not Coconut Milk that has the pulp emulsified). The clear water in a young coconut is full of minerals and natural electrolyte, and it is sterile!. Trekkers often carry of couple of young coconuts over their shoulder. (Young coconut water is available in cans as well.)
At restaurant, such as the Indus (in Ubud), I order the coconut water with ice cubes inside and a twist of lime. The staff adds a few flowers stuck in the top, and I have a healthful and refreshing drink!
In the USA, the coconuts are available in organic stores and in Oriental markets. You might not recognize them as the husk has been ground down with a flat spot on the bottom and a point on the top. I use a meat cleaver to open the coconut at the top (three or four chops to make a circle). People then insert straws to drink the fluid (or pour it into a glass).
At a party, everyone gets a coconut as a conversation starter!
