Gung Aji Galih, A Star From Serongga

by on Thursday, 8 September 2011No Comment | 305 views

Though he learnt how to sing by himself, he is obviously inherited his grandfather’s and ancestors’ talent. His grandfather was a great topeng dancer while other ancestors were the experts in playing Balinese gamelan. And Gung Aji Galih himself is a talented Balinese singer.

Born in 1965 as a part of Cebaang Royal Family, Serongga Village, Gung Aji Galih now can enjoy the great result of his effort of learning how to sing Balinese pop  songs. Even some fans recognize his cengkok, his trademark in singing a song, by just hearing his voice. Not only singing, this father of four children is also a brilliant Balinese song composer.

His phenomenal song is his first song entitled “Adi Made”. This song was really booming not only in Bali but also in other island where Balinese transmigrants live in. Although concert is not something regular for this Balinese singer, there is huge demand for his own songs to be sung by young Balinese singers. Besides, because of his expertise in vocal and music, he is often assigned as one of the juries in local singing competitions.

It seems that Gung Aji Galih utilizes his ability in music not only for sake of money. He has created a brilliant social song describing the majesty of high-level traditional ceremony held in Serongga last month. He named his song after the name of traditional ceremony which was happening for almost 4 months in Serongga,Ngusaba Dalem. The song “Ngusaba Dalem” is dedicated to people of Serongga who had tried their best to hold Ngusaba Dalem and to gods and goddesses who always bless Serongga people with prosperity.
