Gili Trawangan, Lombok
Gili Trawangan is the largest of three Lombok’s Gili Islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air) and is the only one to rise significantly above sea level. It is 3 km long and 2 km wide with a population of about 700. Gili Trawangan offers a white sand island, surrounded by turquiose water with good sunrise over Lombok’s Mount Rinjani volcano and superb sunsets that can be seen from sunset point on the south tip of the island.
On Gili Trawangan there are no motorized vehicles. The main means of transportation are bicycles (rented by locals to tourists) and cidomo (a small horsedrawn carriage). For traveling to and from each of the Gilis, locals usually use motorized boats and speedboats.
The life of Gili Trawangan centers on tourism, as the island is too small to support any broad scale agriculture, and too remote to allow economically viable industry or commerce. The most developed tourism area of Gili Trawangan lies on the eastern side that is full of accommodations, restaurants, and dive shops. If you are seeking a quieter place to stay there are bungalows in the north.
Apart from sunbathing and watching sunrise and sunset there are many activities that can be enjoyed in Gili Trawangan, such as snorkeling off-the-shore, swimming, or join any dive trips with any dive operators which colored the lines.
