Nyepi, No TV Station Broadcasts To Bali

by on Friday, 4 March 2011No Comment | 324 views

Commission I in Bali Parliament summons to all TV stations and radios not to relay any programs to Bali on Nyepi Day, March 5th. This call is accepted positively by Balinese people and Bali Chapter of Indonesian Broadcasting Commision (KPID Bali). Even the governor, I Made Mangku Pastika has asked to carry out that positive summons. He said that it will help Balinese to do Catur Brata Panyepian, especially on point Ameti Lelanguan (forbidden to enjoy the entertainment).

Actually, last year this summons had been successfully applied. Neither National TV station nor local TV station will relay the show to Bali for one day. Yet, people who have TV cable still enjoyed the programs. “This year we hope TV Cable will also switch off their programs to Bali because the provider of TV cable said it is technically possible,” explained I Made Arjaya, the chairman of Commission I in Bali parliament.

Hence together with KPID Bali, several members of Commission I visited Head Office of KPI in Jakarta on last Tuesday to ask for the commitment as the same as last year. “All people accept it positively. No one reject it. We will carry out the summons of KPID Bali and Parliament,” uttered Vice Chairman of KPI, Nina Mutmainah.

Practically, on March 5th all the activities will totally stop at 06.00 until 06.00 on the next day. “However, news coverage will be allowed. We would like to spread to the entire world that Bali still has a local genius which bring a good impact to the environment and to the energy saving,” revealed Made Arjaya.

This new regulation will help Balinese to do the ritual of Catur Brata Panyepian. What about the other people; Moslems, Christians, Buddhists? Many of them decide to leave Bali one day before Nyepi because they want to use two day-off to visit relatives in other island. Some of them will keep staying in Bali and pay respect to this Hindu celebration. Happy Nyepi Day, Happy New Year!
