Obama Returned to His Boyhood Home

by on Wednesday, 10 November 2010One Comment | 321 views

Yesterday (9/11), President of USA, Barrack Obama returned to Jakarta, a city where he lived in on his childhood. Obama came to Indonesia with the First Lady, Michelle Obama, and some ministers using Air Force One. The President and his entourage were welcomed by President Bambang Susilo Yudhoyono, the First Lady, and all ministers at Istana Merdeka, the Indonesian White House.

This official visit was done due to both USA and Indonesia want to strengthen the bilateral relationship in economic issue, security, and others. However, Indonesian people notice this visit is not only a way to build a relationship between the countries. But that was the time when a son came back to his old home. Some people thought this was an emotional moment when Obama said: “It is wonderful to finally be back in Indonesia” on the press conference.

Obama also inserted some fresh ‘joke’ in between his explanation about the agreement made by the two countries. He uttered that this was ‘disorientating’ when he came back to his childhood home as the President. Apart from that, President Yudhoyono and Obama have made agreement to corporate in economic, security, educational, and other issues.

After canceling his visit to Indonesia twice on March and June 2010, Barrack Obama finally return to his childhood home when Mt. Merapi was still erupting. For this natural disaster Obama and his entourage shortened their stay in Indonesia to visit : Istana Merdeka, Indonesia University, and the greatest mosque in Asia Pasific.

Obama becomes so controversial lately since his effort to reach out Moslem community. Some Moslems accuse he is just similar to Bush whose policy was against Moslem. Some non-Moslem reject his policy to reach out the Moslem community.  Well, what he is trying to do is to build a bridge between Moslem and non-Moslem to create a better world, right? At least that is my opinion.
