The rainy season that usually starts at the end of September comes late this year. Bali begins to receive a good amount of rain at the end of December this year, and the rain last more than two days causing minor floods in various parts of the island and the worse news is the center of sunbathing and surfing in Bali, Kuta, is vulnerable to flood. The torrent rain which poured on Tuesday (12/25/07) until Wednesday (12/26/07) caused a 1–km flood on Dewi Sri Street Kuta and paralyzed the traffic.

And to add more problems to the sunbathers, the period of ferocious wind comes quite early this year. Kapitu (7th month in Caka Lunar Calendar) which is identified with the turbulent weather in Bali starts in late December this year, a month ahead of its regular schedule (Kapitu usually starts late in January). The wild wind of Kapitu blows mainly on the island at night. Fallen trees or collapsed structures (most of them are the impermanent structures) are common phenomena in this month. This adds a flavor of strong wind to the torrent rain of rainy season.

Another feature of Kapitu which create a considerable annoyance to the beach-goers is the exceptionally high waves which are produced by the strong wind. This minimize the chance of the surfers especially the beginners to ride the waves of Bali beaches.
