The Bali Global Forum, “Power of Peace Building through Communication and Information”, has been organized by UNESCO working with the Ministry of Communication and Information of the Government of Indonesia in Jimbaran, Bali – Indonesia from 21st – 23rd January 2007.

The purpose of the forum is to identify practical measures to harness the mass media and information and communication tools for cultural self expression and peace.

Attended by a high level mixture of government, NGO’s, Media Owners & specialist, communication expert, and the Press, the forum has an interactive focus with stimulus provided by expert panelist and presenters, and input welcomed from all participants.

One of the agenda of this forum is to create a cultural dialog. “Bali has been chosen as the venue because we still need to recover the image of Bali after the tragedy and to emphasize that Bali is still safe and worth visiting, Seeing is believing”, said Dr. Arief Rachman, MPd, Executive Chairman of the Indonesian National Commission for UNESCO.

The forum hopes to establish a “Power of Peace Network” which creates an ongoing organization to broadcast the message of peace to the entire world, utilizing existing and creating new modern opportunities.

This forum is extremely important in continuing the message that Bali is safe for conferences and meetings, said Bagus Sudibya, Chairman of BTB. And since it is a UN sponsored conference on peace, this marvelous message is extremely important to us to carry to the world travel organization.

I think it is important to involve communication expert to confince people that Bali is safe. I remember a friend came here last week. He told us that his friends asked him “why should you go to Indonesia (and Bali of course)?” He said that nothing to worry about, it is safe. It is because people did not know how the situation is, so they feel hesitate to come. It is a good idea to manage some seminars or forum in bali, hopefully it will enhancing tourism in Bali, back.
