In this facility you can also see a demonstration of nucleus insertion and pearl harvesting operation. Nucleus insertion operation is an operation of introducing a nucleus, the core of the pearl, together with a segment of muscle fiber (saibo) from a donor oyster into genital of another adult oyster, which is thereby programmed to produce a pearl; in response to the presence of this foreign body, the oyster coat it with nacre, in the end forming a pearl. As for harvesting operation, it is an operation to extract the pearl from the oyster without killing the oyster, since the oyster that produce a good pearl can undergo nucleus insertion operation one more time and usually producing bigger peal than the previous harvest.
