Important Ceremonies at Manik Mas Temple

Yesterday, February 16, 2009, a series of important ceremonies was held in Manik Mas temple, in Besakih Mother temple complex. The ceremonies are Tawur, Pamelaspas and Mendem Pedagingan ceremony; these ceremonies are a series of ceremonies that have to be performed when establishing a new building.

This series of ceremonies were carried out by three high priests and attended by representatives of all regencies in Bali. There were also several sacred performances such as Pajegan Masked Dance, shadow puppet, and chanting sacred hymn, were performed to entertain the residing deities of this temple.

The series of ceremonies were begun with Tawur ceremony to purify the venue of the ceremony and the new temple shrines, then the second ceremony pemelaspas ceremony which functions “to enliven” the temple shrines and finalized with mendem pedagingan ceremony which functions to charge the temple shrines with spiritual power. All the series of the ceremonies took three hours for completion.

This series of ceremonies ensures that Manik Mas temple is ready to welcome the grand Tawur Agung Panca Bali Krama that will be held on April.
