The peak of Grand Bhatara Turun Kabeh ceremony was held on Thursday (4/9/09) at Penataran Agung temple in Besakih mother temple complex. Balinese believe that when this ceremony is held when the Gods of all the temples on Bali gather in the main temple (Penataran Agung) of Besakih temple complex. This grand ceremony was attended by thousands of Balinese and officiated by 10 high priests. Though the day of the ceremony coincided with the General election, the flow of pilgrims did not cease from morning until night.

The peak of ceremony started around 10:45 AM, the important ritual in this ceremony was the descend of the deities to be installed on the Peselang (a special building to house the descending deities) but before that the deities was carried by dozens of devotees on a Purwa Daksina ritual (encircling the precinct of Penataran Agung temple three times).

Various offerings were presented to the deities which installed on the Paselang and there were also 9 sacred art performances were staged to please the descending deities (e.g Gambuh, Rejang Dewa, Baris Gede and Topeng Sidakarya dance, Selonding, Gambang, Gong orchestra performance, Wayang Gedog (shadow puupet), and pasantian/gegitaan (recitation of religious hymns). Balinese believe that like people, the deities that descend to attend this grand ceremony need to be sheltered, fed and entertained. The temple and offerings take care of the room and board, and the entertainment is provided by music, dances and drama performances.

This ceremony was concluded with praying eleven times as a symbol of purification and prosperity of the universe.
