by on Monday, 23 May 2011No Comment | 262 views

Unquestionably, Indonesia gains universe’s attention on its unique culture, arts, and society. Many people really enjoy seeing or just knowing it as the tourism products. However, SIT Study Abroad invite all people, students, or any who to learn deeper about the interconnection between arts, religion, and society. Many abroad students have been successful to not only fully understand about it but also elaborate their skills in creating Balinese dances or paintings or other art works.

To achieve the goal explained above, SIT Study Abroad has formulated integrated programs from excursions, homestays, and coursework. In addition, to support the students in examining the relationship between religion, arts, and society in shaping Indonesia now, many international and local academics, local writers, artists, institutions, and community members are involved.

SIT Study Abroad tends to make this program fun rather than giving the students boring teaching-learning activity in the class. Hence excursion to various sites is really helpful to support the students in discovering how religion, society, and the arts have developed side-by-side on each island. They also can learn directly from masters in the field.

Meanwhile coursework is aimed to help students in exploring the ancient roots of Javanese and Balinese culture and the history of this country that led to modern Indonesia. The students will also analyze the current debates in which future Balinese culture is the topic.

Throughout the semester the students participate in many activities to see the role of majority and minority religion in shaping Indonesia today. The students in this case allow pursuing practicum lessons of local art forms such as Balinese dance or music. Furthermore home-stay with locals programs definitely give the students clearer understanding about what they have learned in the field and in the class.
