On Sunday, 10th August 2008, hundreds of people people thronged Babakan field, Kaliakah village, last Sunday. Some people screamed cheering when two couples of buffalo started to run. On the other side, the other people also screamed waiting for the winner from each couple. In this region of Jembrana, this event is still alive.
Jegog is Jembrana’s traditional musical instrument. This instrument consist several sizes of bamboo tubes that are lined up inside a wooden frame. The name of Jegog its self is taken from the biggest instrumental component named Jegogan. Since Jegog is made of Bamboo, it offers something different from most of Balinese musical instruments that are made of metal.
Many people love watching and listening to it. Moreover, when there is a Jegog Mebarung show, a battle of Jegog that is conducted by 2 up to 3 groups in which the groups beat their bamboo in turn, the clapping hand of applauses can be heard during the show. In Jegog Mebarung the who get louder claps is the winner.
The feeling of tranquility and peacefulness are the first impressions that captivate the heart of the visitor upon entering the village of Palasari. Palasari is a catholic outpost in the sea of Hindu, situated in the heart of Jembrana regency and surrounded by the forest and coconut plantations. Palasari can be reached with three hours drive from Denpasar, around 120 km.
The history has it; the first Catholic missionary arrived in Bali on Easter Day 1936 and in a short period converted a number of people in Tuka, a village, which is about 10 kilometers north of Denpasar.
The first Catholic church established in this village, the head of the Tuka Church at that time was Father Simon Buis. In 1940, he requested from the Dutch administration and Bali’s Board of Kings and was granted a plot of land in the lush forest of Pangkung Sente in Jembrana for his congregation to live since their was no place for the congregation in Denpasar at that time. In September 1940 Father Buis and his followers moved to the forest and settled in a village, now known as Palasari from the nutmeg trees that surround the village at that time. The word “palasari” is derived from the word “pala” means “nutmeg” and the word “sari” means “essence”.
Makepung or bull race is the only spectacular crowd-gather event that is held in Jembrana Regency. Even the regency itself is nick named after this sport event, Bumi Makepung or Land of Bull Race. The annual makepung competion (Governor Cup) was held on Sunday, November 18, 2007, at Delod Berawah beach Jembrana Regency. Here are few snapshots from the spectacular race
Manusia Purba Museum is a small prehistoric museum with significant collections of prehistoric artifacts and prehistoric human’s bones. This unique museum is located in the west tip of Bali, in Gilimanuk, Jembrana regency. This museum houses collection of prehistoric bones and artifacts which were found by R.P. Soejoeno of Bali Archaeological Service during great excavation in 1962, in the village of Cekik, where the museum finally located.
Cekik site is one of the biggest necropolises found in Indonesia. In this site, the archeologists found various artifacts such as jewelries, bronze equipments, glass beads, pottery and sarcophagus, 100 complete prehistoric human skeletons adult were also found in an ancient graveyard in this excavation area.

The origin of Makepung is quite a mystery, some say it began as nothing more than rivalry between local farmers; others assume that it is introduced by Madurese migrants to celebrate the end of the rice harvest.
