Friday, August 15th, 2008 by Sidarta Wijaya

Gili Trawangan is the largest of three Lombok’s Gili Islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air) and is the only one to rise significantly above sea level. Gili Trawangan offers a white sand island, surrounded by turquiose water with good sunrise over Lombok’s Mount Rinjani volcano and superb sunsets that can be seen from sunset point on the south tip of the island.

On Gili Trawangan there are no motorized vehicles. The main means of transportation are bicycles (rented by locals to tourists) and cidomo (a small horsedrawn carriage). For traveling to and from each of the Gilis, locals usually use motorized boats and speedboats.
