The Biggest Bali Kite Festival Ever!

by on Tuesday, 2 August 2011No Comment | 737 views

The 33rd Bali Kite Festival has ended on Sunday July 31st. But this phenomenal festival has left many things to remember. Bali Kite Festival this year is fabulously spectacular.

After flying a giant 3D baby-shaped kite on the opening ceremony on Friday July 29th, I Gusti Putu Rai Andayana, the Chairman of this festival revealed the participant number reached 1.221 while on the previous festival the participants were around 800. What a fantastic number! The most participants are the communities coming from around Bali. Even, according to him, there were participants from Argentina and Australia.

As usual, the participants could choose the competition day, whether it was Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. And as expected, Padanggalak Beach on Sunday was so hectic and crowded, full of the participants and visitors alike. Since 08.00 one by one participant wearing Balinese costume with their giant kites arrived on the beach accompanied by Balinese musical instrument playing. Just like previous Bali Kite Festival, the types of kite competed in which the participant can choose one or both of them are Traditional (Bebean, Jangan, Cepuk) and New Creation.

Everyone seemed don’t care about the strong sunstroke on that Sunday. They looked so enthusiastic and enjoyed the fun. But if there were the happiest people, those people would be the committee of The 33rd Bali Kite Festival. MURI (Indonesia Record Museum) awarded this event as the Kite Festival with the largest number of participants.

And at the end of the event, as the consequence of the increasing participants, traffic jam could not be avoided. You can’t imagine that people stuck there for almost 3 hours. The only one access was totally blocked by the trucks, pick-up cars, and others. Some of them decided to wait and a few of them were fed up to wait and walked to their home.

Beyond of that annoying thing, the participants enjoyed the festival and are very proud of the MURI’s award. For you who missed the 33rd Bali Kite Festival, another Kite Festival which takes place in Biaung and Merta Sari Beach will be held on the next Sunday.
