This October in Bali

Bali, this October, is full with carnival and festivities, range from literary festival to beach sports competitions. Three major events will be held in Bali this October, 1st Asian Beach Games, Nusa Dua Fiesta, and Ubud Writers and Readers Festival.

The 1st Asian Beach Games will held be from the 18 – 26 October, in four venues, Kuta, Nusa Dua, Sanur, and Serangan Island. The competitions that will be played at Kuta Beach are Body Building, Dragon Boat Racing and Surfing; at Nusa Dua beach you can watch Water Polo, Beach Kabaddi, Beach Basketball, Beach Wrestling, Beach Pencak Silat, Jetski Sport, Paragliding, and Woodball; at Sanur beach you can enjoy Beach Volleyball, Beach Sepaktakraw, Beach Handball, Beach Soccer, Marathon Swimming, and Triathlon; as for Sailing and Windsurfing, you can watch them in Serangan Island.

Nusa Dua Fiesta will be held from the 10 -14 October, within the Nusa Dua Complex. Nusa Dua Fiesta will feature cultural performances, live musical performance, sporting events, contests and product exhibitions. As for the exhibition, 41 government departments, 17 provincial governments, 29 regional governments, 16 hotels, 3 government departments and one private enterprise confirm their participation in the exhibition.

The 2008 Ubud Writers & Readers Festival will take place from the 14-19 October. The main program of the Festival comprises four days of panel sessions in which writers, journalists and academics discuss issues of society, religion, politics and culture from a literary perspective. These sessions take place at Indus Restaurant and an old bank building nicknamed the ‘Left Bank Lounge’. Both venues are located on Jalan Raya Sanggingan. The Festival also offers a wide range of writing related workshops for adults such as travel writing, writing for the media, editing and publishing, memoir writing, short story writing and novel writing. For convenience, workshops are held in venues close to the festival centre at Indus and the Left Bank Lounge. Cultural workshops are also offered to those visitors interested in learning more about the culture and lifestyle of their hosts the Balinese.
