To be Opened on May 27th, Museum of Marketing Receive Big Denial

Ubud has widely renowned for its arty atmosphere with abundant sophisticated art works. This bohemian small town is also home for a few numbers of exclusive art museum; Puri Lukisan, Rudana Museum, Blanco Museum, you name it, you will find it here. On May 27th the long list of museum in Ubud will be added officially with another museum. But, this museum receives a big denial from the locals and some foreigners.

Indonesian marketers see the construction of Museum Marketing 3.0 in Ubud as the important memorial building. The last King of Ubud, according to him, had such a unique marketing approach to ‘sell’ Ubud to people around the world. Ubud has been successfully applying the real marketing that is based on moral values, human spirit, honesty, and hard works. Museum Marketing 3.0 which the name is taken from the phenomenal marketing book written by father of marketing, Philip Kotler and Hermawan Kartajaya will contains success stories from famous companies that will attract more tourists.

Although the government supports this museum but the locals and some foreigners who love Ubud state that this museum will disturb the existence of Puri Lukisan itself. “This project seems to be a…marketing non sense. It reminds me “Fitzcarraldo” movie with Klaus Kinski, story of a man who builds up an opera hall in the jungle,” wrote Bruno Durand in a facebook group Say No To Museum Of Marketing in Ubud.

Another statement said that this project seems a project which will promote individuals and has nothing to do with Ubud. Since on May 27th 2011, Philip Kotler will open officially Museum of Marketing along with his 80th birthday. Bruce Briscoe wrote his negative comment on Museum of Marketing. He argued that there are some people who want to ‘change’ Ubud. “of course next to the new Museum of Marketing they will want parking for all their buses, a McD, House of Pancakes, and another Ubud Starbucks!” Briscoe commented.

There are many positive and negative statements as well on the construction of Marketing Museum at Puri Lukisan area. What is yours? The most important is any new construction should not change Ubud to be negative.

What wiki says about Puri Lukisan Museum:

The Pitamaha Artist Cooperative was founded by Tjokorda Gde Agung Sukawati (the King of Ubud) and Tjokorda Gde Raka Sukawati (the King’s brother) along with two western artists working in Bali at the time: Walter Spies and Rudolf Bonnet. Its mission was to preserve and develop traditional Balinese art.
