Tony Blair at the Elephant Safari Park

British ex Prime Minister Tony Blair, his wife Cherie and children visited the Elephant Safari Park at Taro today. They were welcomed by the park owner Nigel Mason and his son Jian. Nigel, who is known to be an Australian, is actually British born, having spent his youth in London before immigrating to Australia at the age of 15.

Tony and Cherie both had a long conversation with Nigel regarding the Elephant Park, as they were both very interested in the Elephants and especially the two new babies that were born in March. Nigel and his son escorted Tony around the park and introduced them the baby elephants.  Cherie was also interested to hear about Nigel’s English background and reason for leaving the country at such a young age.

The family all took rides and watched the Elephant Talent show before departing.  Tony Blair was very impressed with the park as were his family and said they hoped to visit again in the future.  Nigel presented them with some original elephant paintings, a copy of his documentary ‘Operation Jumbo’ and gave his son a copy of his best selling children’s book, ‘The Tale of the First White Elephant in Bali’. Tony Blair and his wife are currently on a short holiday in Bali, before continuing on to China.

The Elephant Safari Park Taro has been host to numerous other celebrities this month, including the world famous magician David Copperfield, who has been acquainted with Nigel since he first came to Bali and went rafting with Bali Adventure Tours in 1993.  Australian Entertainer Daryl Braithwaite also went rafting with the company last week, after concluding his shows at the Hard Rock Hotel.
