Traditional Dances outside Bali
Beautiful traditional dance and musical performances can not just be found in Bali but also in other areas across the archipelago. This was the message that was conveyed by eleven dance troupes that came from neighboring islands such as Java, Sumatra, Celebes, and Lombok that participate in Nusa Dua Fiesta. These dance troupes gave their best performance during the fiesta to introduce the rich culture of their hometown to the audiences.
The island of Java sent six dance and musical troupes; East Java presented the well- known Gandrung dance. Solo municipality gave the performance of Prajurit Samber Nyawan dance. Jakarta performed Lenggang Nyai and Nandak Ganjen dance; Tayub Campur Sari was performed by the representative from Central Java. The representative from West Java gave a performance of Sundanese traditional music. And the spectacular Ramayana Opera entitled Anoman Obong was performed by representative from Yogyakarta.
The representative from neighboring island of Lombok presented various Lombok’s traditional dance and Gendang Beleq musical performance. From the island of Sumatra came the representative from South Solok and Aceh which performed the synchronized Saman Dance. The island of Celebes sent two representatives, the representatives from Bangai regency and Palu regency which performed their respective traditional dance and musical performances.
Through Nusa Dua Fiesta the representative from each area had a chance to expose the richness of its culture to the visitors.
