Vulnerable to hacking, Be careful in an ATM Transaction
Based on result of recent investigation, the system used to break into the customer’s ATM card is illegally by placing chips on the ATM machine to record the data from the card and also the installation of hidden cameras to determine digit PIN number – this is called skimming.
Apparently, this ATM burglary case occurs not only in Bali but also in Jakarta. The Police Headquarters began to study the Russian mafia involvement on this.
Associated with this case, the Bank of Indonesia called on customers to change your PIN periodically, as has been warned by the bank for this. Here are some tips:
1. Protect your privacy by not telling your PIN to anyone, including to people who looked like a bank clerk.
2. Cover with a hand when entering your PIN at an ATM so that the PIN is not viewed by others.
3. Note the physical condition of the ATM and surroundings. If there is anything suspicious, do not use the ATM. Immediately report such condition to the nearest bank or to the authorities.
4. At the time of transaction using an ATM or Debit Card, look at the condition of EDC (Electronic Data Capture) equipment. If there is a suspicious device attached to the EDC, do not proceed the transactions and report it immediately to the nearest bank or to the authorities.
5. Do immediately block ATM card, if your ATM card is lost via telephone or visited a branch office of the card issuer.
6. Use the right ATM space perfectly safe and far from those unknown.
7. To disrupt the criminal record, after the transaction via an ATM, insert the ATM card again and press the random number and press the “cancel”.
