Warwick Ibah Luxury Villas & Spa takes great pleasure to announce that it will be hosting a month long exhibition entitled Sesari (Essence) featuring art, photography and music by members of the Bali Kangin Kauh artist group.

The idea to establish this group was conceived almost 20 years ago with the vision to generate awareness of Bali’s artistic legacy to a wider audience outside the island. Over the past two decades Bali Kangin Kauh has united creative and passionate individuals from all areas within the art community including writers, poets and cultural advocates.

This latest exhibition by the group will see key figures from Ubud’s respected royal family collaborate with a leading Balinese art connoisseur and a new generation of local artists. Esteemed owner of ARMA and dedicated collector of local fine art, Agung Rai, will publicly exhibit some of his own works for the very first time. He is joined by fellow artist, I Gusti Putu Suteja, grandson of fine art maestro I Gusti Nyoman Lempad, who has put together a display of energetic paintings that are a modern expression of his religious beliefs.

Young photographer Tjokorda Bagus Dwi Santana, who completed his education in Australia and spent many months backpacking to experience the cultural diversity of Asia, also contributes to the exhibition with some inspiring shots. Another member of the royal clan, Tjokorda Krishna Putra Sudharsana who lived 14 years away from the island, has created a collection that rediscovers the depth and complexity of the Balinese lifestyle that is infused with spiritual elements of a higher dimension.

Nyoman Suradnya is a local artist from Ubud who purposely chose to nurture and develop his talents outside the academic hierarchy. He participates in the exhibition with his distinct painting style that draws inspiration from his conscious effort to conserve the immediate surroundings on a cultural and physical level. Traditional musician and teacher, Tjokorda Raka Swastika, who has performed Balinese music to audiences around the world, also joins the group. His most recent achievement has been to instigate a renewed interest in the rare Balinese instrument known as rebab and ensure its historical preservation.

Lastly, senior member of Bali Kangin Kauh, Tjokorda Raka Kethyasa who is known for his active role in local politics as well as art and cultural affairs, will show a selection of drawings and paintings. In addition, he will take this opportunity to launch his second book of poetry and prose entitled Revolusi Rasa (A Revolution of Sense). Tjok Raka’s childhood experiences of growing up in a royal compound enabled him to delve into all components of Bali’s artistic way of life from a very young age. A proficient artist, musician and poet, Tjok Raka is zealously committed to the survival of the island¹s unique cultural heritage and artistic traditions.

The Sesari exhibition of art, photography and music is scheduled to run from 21st March through until 21st April 2007 at the Ibah Gallery located within the grounds of Warwick Ibah Luxury Villas & Spa in Campuhan, Ubud. The exhibition is open daily from 9.00am until 9.00pm.
