Finals facts

Kuznetsova wins her seventh career singles title (7-7 lifetime in Tour finals; 4-0 at Tier III level or below) and third in Bali (also 2002, 2004), improving her perfect record in this event to 13-0; it is her second title of 2006 (also Miami), becoming the 13th multiple Tour singles champion this year
Kuznetsova improves to 2-0 lifetime vs. Bartoli, having won their only prior Tour encounter at the 2005 Australian Open (second round); the two 21-year-olds were also junior rivals, with the pair splitting their four matches on the ITF Junior Circuit 2-2 (incl. finals at the 2001 US Open and Orange Bowl)
Bartoli was appearing in her second career singles final, having won her first Tour title earlier this year in Auckland (Tier IV)
With her semifinal win over defending champion Davenport, Kuznetsova became the second woman (after Henin-Hardenne) to notch 50 singles match victories in 2006
It was the first time in Kuznetsova’s career she was seeded No.1 in a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles event
In the semifinals, Bartoli scored her second Top 10 win in the past four weeks, beating No.2 seed and world No.8 Schnyder (also beat No.6 Petrova in New Haven second round)
Kuznetsova is projected to remain at No.5 on Monday’s Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Singles Rankings, while runner-up Bartoli should also remain unchanged at No.26
Davenport/Morariu win their fifth Tour doubles title as a team; it is Davenport’s 36th career doubles title (first of 2006; in fact her first doubles event of 2006) and Morariu’s 12th (second of 2006 after Sydney w/Stubbs)
Grandin/Musgrave were playing as a team in a Tour event for only the second time (reached SF of 2002 Helsinki); it was Grandin’s second career Tour doubles final (runner-up at 2005 Seoul w/Craybas), while it was Musgrave’s first Tour final

Svetlana Kuznetsova, 2006 Bali singles champion:
“I would like to have won the match a little easier, but I managed to play well when I needed to. I served well after getting into some difficult spots, but after the tough first set it looked like she was getting tired.”

“I don’t know why I play so well here. I don’t think it’s just good luck, as I work very hard to be where I am and to be ranked in the Top 5 you have to have a very professional approach to your job. However, it’s such a wonderful place to play tennis, and that definitely makes me feel relaxed and comfortable.”

Marion Bartoli, singles runner-up:
“I think I started the match very well, and I kept up with her for much of the time, but I began to feel a little tired in the second set after such a big match last night (vs. Schnyder). I tried to attack her backhand as her forehand is the stronger shot, and it worked earlier in the match. But she was just too tough in the end; that’s what makes her such a good player.”

Lindsay Davenport, doubles champion (w/Morariu):
“I had another great time here in Bali and I’m glad to come away with another trophy. Corina is my best friend and in the plane coming to Bali I told her I really wanted to play doubles here. We’ve played with each other a lot over the years, but not so much lately, so it was great to pair up again and win the title.”
